St. Peter’s Lutheran Church held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new building on May 13.  The congregation voted April 1 to construct a new parish hall, narthex/gathering area, covered entryway, and a bell tower.

Also included in the $460,000 project is a covered entryway into the narthex and a free-standing bell tower for the church’s bell.  Construction began on May 7.

Rawley McCoy and Associates of Victoria serve as architects for the project, and Tucker Construction Co. of Victoria is the general contractor.

The new building will replace the church’s current narthex and parish hall and will add approximately 2,000 square feet to the church.

St. Peter’s parish hall was originally the parish hall at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in the Kilgore Community.  When St. Paul’s closed in 1954, the parish hall was purchased by St. Peter’s and moved to Ander.  St. Peter’s held a Service of Thanksgiving at the Disposition of a Church Building on April 15 to remember and give thanks for the parish hall and the ministries it made possible, both at Ander and at Kilgore.

The new building is the first new construction at St. Peter’s since the church’s sanctuary was built in 1965.
