Service and Outreach
Members of St. Peter’s reach out to the community in a variety of ways. The annual Oktoberfest raises funds for the Victoria Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity and other community organizations. Gifts of food and clothing are provided to Goliad County Outreach, and birthday parties are celebrated for nursing home residents. On the Sunday before Christmas Day, Christmas carols are shared with residents of nursing homes and area residents.
Tape recordings of worship services are provided to persons who reside in nursing homes, to those who are at home and unable to participate in worship at the church, and to other interested persons.
A 2-mile section of FM 1961 has been adopted as part of Texas Highway Trash Pickup.
Camp work weekends are held each spring at one of the synod’s camps, and a variety of community groups make use of the church’s parish hall and picnic area.
St. Peter’s participates in the ministry of the whole church through mission support (benevolence) gifts. These gifts – for the work of the church in our local area and throughout the world – support the development of new congregations in the United States and the Caribbean, the ministry of missionaries serving with partner churches throughout the world, educational ministries at colleges and seminaries, campus ministry at both state and private universities, and the development of resources for worship, youth ministry, and outreach.
Additional designated gifts through St. Peter’s help support the work of missionaries in Kenya, the World Hunger Appeal, and Lutheran World Relief.
Funds are also available to assist area residents in need, and several members currently or in the past have served on syndical and church wide boards and committees.
