Women of the ELCA
The Women of the ELCA (WELCA) at St. Peter’s is part of the church wide WELCA organization, and includes all confirmed women of the church with the purpose statement "As a community of women, created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, the participants commit themselves to grow in faith, affirm their gifts, support one another in their callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society and the world."
In addition to participating in other ministries within the congregation, our WELCA sends cards to those who are ill, host an annual birthday party at a nursing home, provide food for Vacation Bible School and do benevolence projects locally and worldwide. Members regularly attend the Bluebonnet Conference and Southwestern Texas Synod WELCA gatherings for support and education.
Our group meets the second Tuesday of every month for Bible Study followed by a meeting at which their ministries are planned. In addition, they hold regular Lutheran World Relief Workdays on the third Wednesday of each month to put together health, school, baby care, sewing and personal care kits and make quilts.
